THERAPY DOG CLASS
The primary objective of the TDI dog/handler team is to provide comfort and companionship by sharing the dog with patients
in hospitals, nursing home, group homes, shut-ins, shelters, prisons, institutions or even disaster sites and other institutions
and wherever else a Therapy Dog is needed. A Therapy Animal is a personal pet
trained to work with a handler to provide comfort and companionship by sharing the pet with others.
These dogs provide unconditional love and acceptance. They love to be
petted or held and are a great comfort to the lonely. The initial focus is on
the animal which usually prompts questions about the pet or may rekindle memories of beloved pets once owned or left at home. For those who are non-verbal, you may get a smile when they see or touch the pet. You may not be aware of what is happening, but it is well documented in medical literature
that contact with animals can lower blood pressure, lessen depression, stimulate healing and result in measurable improvements
in over all health.
WHO CAN BECOME A THERAPY DOG?
Good therapy dogs come in any size, breed or mix of breeds. They need to like people, be well mannered, have a stable personality and an ability
