My
Training Philosophy
I believe in training dogs
using positive motivation techniques. I understand that there is no one way to
train a dog and that each dog will respond differently. My goal is to obtain
the desired behavior, using whatever means necessary for the dog. I try to make
obedience training a fun and pleasurable experience for the dog as well as the handler.
Experience
I have been
teaching private and group obedience lessons and behavior modification for nine years, from puppy class all the way up
to advanced obedience. I am a Canine Good Citizen evaluator for the AKC, and a certified evaluator
for Therapy Dogs International.
Personal
Achievements
My Sheltie
mix, Trixie, is a Canine Good Citizen and earned Companion Dog (CD) titles from UKC, AMBOR and ASCA
before retiring from performance events. Trixie’s retirement job is that
of a registered therapy dog.
My Sheltie,
Bear, is also a Canine Good Citizen. Bear has earned CDs from the AKC,
CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) and UKC. We are
currently working toward our CDX and having fun on the agility course, earning lots of
NADAC titles.
My Aussie,
Indy, is a Canine Good Citizen and a registered therapy dog. Indy is currently
in training for obedience and agility.
I also foster
Shelties for Minnesota Sheltie Rescue. I typically get the “problem”
dogs that need socialization, confidence or other behavior modification.
