Terresa Slusher, or “T” as she likes to be called,
started volunteering with animals in 1999 as a foster care provider for a local pet rescue. When the rescue was being
dissolved, many of the foster homes asked “T” to create a new rescue program. Terresa accepted the challenge and
started her own rescue operation in 2002. In 2007, Terresa handed over the reins of her rescue program to the current operators.
Terresa spent twelve years fostering
puppies, dogs, kittens, cats, small animals and all types of birds. This experience has given her a unique understanding of
animals and their care and training needs. In addition to her first-hand knowledge of animal care through fostering, “T”
has worked in veterinary clinics, which has enhanced her understanding of animal care. Elk River K9 first met Terresa when she brought her German Shepherd / Greyhound cross to the school
for training classes. Her next canine student was her Cavalier. This dog showed her how much fun training could be and helped
encourage her to learn about the Elk River K9 apprentice dog-training program. “T” started in the apprentice program
now is one of Elk River K9’s Puppy Class trainers. In addition to teaching at the school, “T” now competes with her Cavaliers in AKC Obedience, Agility and
hopes to add Disc Dog competitions to her competitions. Terresa really enjoys teaching
people how to train their puppies and is open-minded about issues and concerns that her students have. When you take her classes,
you can see how much she loves what she does and we know you and your dog will enjoy taking her classes.
Terresa is
also a CGC evaluator! She will be conducting CGC tests for Elk River K9's students and also teaching our Star Puppy Classes!
